Some distinctive characteristics of
the Korean School of Ministry:
Low cost! Educational debt often leads men to seek high-paying positions, and thus neglect many needy fields. Our tuition is under $450/year for a full class load.
(Romans 13:8, Proverbs 22:7)Rom 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Pro 22:7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.
We train our students to study the Bible inductively, and to teach all the way through it Verse-by-Verse, chapter-by-chapter, and book-by-book using exegetical, expository methods, rather than teaching topical, "headline news" sermons, or "hop-scotching" among favorite passages.
(Acts 20:27, 17:11, Nehemiah 8:8, Isaiah 28:9-10, Acts 8:30-35)
Act 20:27 "... I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God."
Act 8:30-31 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
Neh 8:8, 12 So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading...And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.
Act 17:11 ...they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
Isa 28:9-10 "Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? ...For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little."
We train our students to apply Biblical Counseling (God-centered), rather than Psychology (which is man-centered). (Matthew 16:24-25, 2 Peter 1:2-4, 2 Timothy 3:1-5)
Mat 16:24-25 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it."
2Pet 1:2-4 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Tim 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Our training incorporates concurrent service in the day-to-day lives of their communities. Years of academic isolation may develop someone into an intellectual giant, but some seminary grads "enter the ministry" no longer having a vital relationship with Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 8:1)
1Cor 8:1 Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.
Preparation for cross-cultural ministry; this is crucial for Koreans because Korean society is over 99% homogeneous. (Acts 2:7-8)
Act 2:7-8 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?"
Called to disciple ALL NATIONS (Frontier Mission); We believe that God brought the Gospel to us SO THAT we can bring the Gospel to the Least-reached People Groups. (Genesis 12:1-3)
Gen 12:3 "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
We advocate and seek to exemplify that every minister be a "Servant-Leader."
(Mark 10:45, 12:38-39, Jeremiah 45:5)
Mar 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Mar 12:38-39 Then He said to them in His teaching, "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts..."
Jer 45:5 "And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh," says the LORD. "But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go."
